Company History

In 1976, Leland “Rock” Martell founded Milwaukee-based Rock Transfer & Storage (RTS) with just one truck and a small warehouse. He started with simple ideas: be a partner to your customers, deliver consistent service and exceed expectations. Eventually, Martell grew his business to 24 trucks, 55,000 square feet of warehouse space and 30 employees before selling the business to Richard Sheridan in 1992.

Rock Transfer & Storage continued to grow under Sheridan’s leadership for the next 13 years. Sheridan eventually sold the business to his executive team in 2005.  That group continues with those same principles of serving its customers.

The current ownership group has a combined ninety-five years’ of experience internally at RTS in all areas of the company. Call on any RTS department, from Operations and Sales to Human Resources or Finance and that strong leadership guides RTS forward. We’re one of the largest privately owned, non-union trucking companies in Wisconsin, and we proudly serve clients throughout the Midwest and beyond.

Our track record speaks for itself. We continue our solid growth, but we haven’t forgotten the principles RTS was founded upon. We’re moving our business forward along with that of our many clients. With investments in new operations technologies and expansion of our service offerings, we look forward to building on our track record by continuing the traditions that started over four decades ago, with one truck and a small warehouse.
